playing harmunia

Updated: Feb 18, 2021

I’ve watched my dad play music and sing growing up and I used to play harmonium a lot in my 20’s. Just learned to play by ear. Then for years, I just stopped playing. My cousin Sonik came to visit me last fall and really encouraged me to play again, so I ordered a harmonium last month. Also, I watched Abigail from ‘Tabla for Two’ play and she inspired me as well, because this instrument is mainly played by men in Afghanistan. There are mistakes in how I play, but I am self taught and practicing! Here are some songs from Ahmad Zahir of Afghanistan whose music I’ve loved since childhood. Hope you enjoy!
