islamic art + fashion history: 3

Islamic Art + Fashion History: Part 3 - The Umayyads. After the death of Prophet Muhammed (pbuh), 4 Rightly Guided Caliphs ruled. After their deaths, Mu’awiya ruled marking the reign of the Umayyad Dynasty, an empire that extended from Atlantic Ocean to Indus River. He changed the caliphate into a monarchy, moved the Islamic capital to Damascus and created a more luxurious and ceremonial way of life compared to the modest way of life and dress of the Prophet and 4 Successors. Under the Umayyads, Islamic art and architecture began to form, initially taking inspiration from Byzantine and Persian styles.
