I'm excited to share my new logo for Beauty and the East! Those of you who are familiar with Islamic art and geometry will recognize some of the influences in its design. The logo is a moon inside a sun, surrounded by geometry and arabesque with an art deco style. The logo also symbolizes a mirror to inspire confidence and positive self identify as we can learn about who we are today through reflecting on our past. Fashion, beauty and art are tools of expression for this. Given what has been going on the past few months, and rising anti-Muslim attitudes and Islamophobia, I feel it's important to show the beauty of the east in a way that's inspiring, encouraging, educational and entertaining especially for Muslims around the world who are experiencing doubts, fear, or need a safe and positive space. For those of you who have been following me for a while, I launched Beauty and the East TV in 2008. It started out as an online entertainment platform featuring Muslim entertainers and events as part of multiple projects I was working on to counter Islamophobia in a post 9/11 world. It evolved into the name of my personal blog, and my goal now is to grow it into a podcast, online community and events centered around fashion, beauty, art, storytelling inspired by Silk Road and Islamic history, culture and people.
