Did you know that in the 1800's, Afghan women controlled their husbands, rode horses, loved beauty products, were very brave and liked to smoke hookah? That is according to James Rattray, a British soldier and artist who visited Afghanistan in the 1800's and created many illustrations (lithographs) of Afghans he came into contact with. He liked to draw how they lived and their clothing. This video takes a look at 3 of his illustrations of Afghan women and what he thought of them.
