Designer

Thank you for visiting my website! I guess you are on this page to find out, "Who is Samira Atash"…so I'll try to make it short and sweet…

I always knew I would become a fashion designer. My mother and grandmother both designed and sewed their own fashionable garments, and passed on technical skills to me from a young age. At the age of six, I began hand sewing and illustrating designs, and was voted “Best Dressed” at school several times.

I’m a first generation immigrant, so I learned to be very resourceful and hard-working from a young age - thanks to my parents who lost so much when the Russian-Afghan war started, but still built their lives in America from scratch. They taught me and my sisters to be independent, educated, and that if we worked hard, we could achieve anything in America.

I was a little businesswoman from a young age, and started a babysitting venture at the age of 10. You could say that I was the “teacher’s pet” those days! Through the awkward teen years, I honed my design skills at home, and spent many days sketching and dreaming of becoming a fashion designer. I even remember a classmate telling me, "One day, we will probably see your name on a fashion label."

At 17, I wanted to go to NYC to pursue a fashion degree, but my parents didn’t like the idea of their young girl alone in a big city, and thought I should get a “real degree”. So I did, and always tried to incorporate art and fashion in my studies. I then worked in the corporate world for a while before realizing that I was meant to be a fashion designer, and I wasn’t going to let anything stop me. I faced many personal obstacles, and despite being told that I wouldn’t last in the cut-throat fashion industry, I made the move to New York City to make my dream a reality....and the rest is history!

Today, I have created two, I’m happy to say, popular labels. The SAMIRA ATASH label unites East and West through ethically made designs inspired by the Silk Road. It’s A Miracle Contemporary Maternity offers contemporary for stylish women who don’t want to show too much skin.

My other passions are film and music. I taught myself how to play the harmonium and keyboard, sometimes guitar, and have appeared in movies and television. I have also has written several scripts that I hope to turn into feature films or shorts. I have created a vlog that features Muslim/Middle-Eastern artists and musicians called Beauty and the East TV (www.beautyandtheeast.tv). You should check it out!

My designs are a reflection of the many journeys I have taken physically, emotionally, and spiritually throughout my life. Thank you to all my customers, friends, family, and fans who have given me so much strength and support over the years to continue creating! I truly hope you find something you love and can call your own as you shop here!

Love,

Samira Atash Nassry
